Connect JPA / JDO source code compatibility

Google App Engine allows Java apps to be hosted. However, for datastore, it requires source code to be compatible with JDO / JPA. I was trying to run Connect through the App Engine and hit this roadblock. I am wondering about the effort involved in changing source code to make it compatible and whether any tool is available which helps achieve this? May be it is better to wait till Google App Engine supports database servers this year end? Any suggestions?
