Provide an option to display Top Level Menu as a left sidebar

While visiting a microsite, a user encounters two menus that are parallel to each other - the top level menu & the microsite menu. Does it make sense to provide a configurable option to turn the top level menu into a left sidebar and display the microsite menu at its usual place? One visually pleasing site that I came across is NY Times' Chrome site located at -> http://www.nytimes.com/chrome
