Embed Web Resources
Wiki plug-ins or widgets?
More and more, ConcourseConnect uses wiki markup for storing information. We use it for the Activity Stream, Content Areas, the Wiki itself, and now in the Discussion Forums. This was a decision so that linking permissions and specific security and formatting constraints could be made on the input on the data to achieve a consistent output of the data. The nice thing is that the data is easily converted to other formats too, like PDF. It bares a small resemblance to MediaWiki.
With that said, the Wiki can embed Videos and Images and it was always a thought that it would handle other media types as well, although no work was done. I would love to see a structure that allows for easily embedding these media types (and new ones) without giving up the security constraints. I think this is possible by adding a new wiki markup handler.
I'll elaborate more in the, ahem, Wiki...
