Centric CRM to vCards

5/13/2005 4:22 PM EDT

I have developed a proof-of-concept that exports all of my Centric CRM contacts and accounts to vCards for use with cell phones, email applications and even the Blackberry. The project is for internal use but I can't say whether my company will be interested in selling or open sourcing this component. I'll update this thread when I know!

The Java application uses the fantastic XML-HTTP API to download the contacts database and my company's own vCard library to create vCards. It currently exports vCards from Centric but cannot import vCards into Centric.

One major bug that hurts this tool is issue 681: "Missing methods in the XML API"

Jesse,

We too are excited about having implemented the vCard specification, where in a user could either download a contact's vcard while viewing the contact's details within Centric or the user could download a bunch of vCards through Centric's webdav port, to the user's desktop.

We are currently working on making the other direction possible where in a bunch of vCards can be imported into Centric through webdav. This should be available shortly in the next version.

thanks,
Ananth

Jesse,

That's great, and I'm glad you found the API useful!

We're in the process of releasing something similar using WebDAV. It will allow two-way transfer of contacts, calendar events, and tasks. So far we have the tasks and calendar running in download mode only, but are making great headway on the rest. I think it will all be released pretty soon. We're also putting the finishing touches on our drag and drop service for document management using the same technology.

I'm going to have to let someone more knowledgeable than I answer the issue of the bug :(
