Triplicate Photos After Restoring from Backup

1/2/2010 5:49 PM EST

A recent power outage resulted in the inability to load any dashboard pages, although calling admin or login URLs directly worked fine. Nothing special in catalina.out, but PostgreSQL was complaining about unexpected EOF.

In the end I stopped Tomcat, restored the PostgreSQL connect DB from a daily dump, and used Time Machine to restore the file library from the same time as the PG dump. Everything seems to be OK with one surprising exception - there are now triplicate photos in all profiles that have photos.

The photo viewer shows triplicate previous / next links; and deleting any of the three photos deletes all. It seems that the photo objects exist once but are displayed three times. See the symptoms at http://connectadirondacks.com

This does beg the question of how best to backup and restore; but in the meanwhile if anyone has ideas on how to eliminate the triplicate photos I would really appreciate it. Aside from deleting and re-uploading to a few dozen profiles, I'm stumped on what else to try.

It's been awhile, but seeing multiple images is an old issue that got resolved. I can't remember though in which release without doing some research. Curious, did you upgrade to 1.0.3?

I was running 1.03, but now must consider that I messed up when restoring the webapp files. I found the file system references in the project_files_thumbnails table, and confirmed there were no duplicates either there or in the file library. That's a relief!

I'll re-install the app, restore the layout customizations and post the result. Thanks for the direction.

Drat. Turns out my DB seems a bit too full after all. Although the project_files table has one each of the original client files, the project_files_thumbnails has four of each size.

My multiple restoral attempts likely caused the problem; though other tables seem OK. The backups use pg_dump -Ft -b; and restores use pg_restore -d.

I had tested these earlier in the release cycle, but not in multiple iterations. Any suggestions on cleaning project_files_thumbnail of the duplicates?
