Product Catalog performance issues

11/21/2005 1:40 PM EST

I seem to be having a serious performance issue in Centric after importing a large list of products into the Product Catalog.

Before the import, I had 2 categories, and ~10 products. When I was on the quote entry screen, and would click on the "Choose" option to add one or more items, the product category list screen would appear in under two seconds.

Recently I uploaded some 2500 products and 34 categories into Centric's Product Catalog. Now, when I am on that same quote screen and click "Choose", it will take 60 seconds (!) to return the list of product categories.

I am fairly sure my dataload was successful, since the functionality does work as expected (just not in the expected time). And I haven't done any custom work on this page, so it's standard Centric code.

So is this a known issue in Centric, or has anyone even seen this problem before? Suffice to say, entering a quote has now become a very tedious task, so I am trying to figure out what's going on here.

Ruben,
We would like to know the the following details to help you better.

1. The version of centric you are using.
2. The version of java and the memory allocated for java.
3. The database you are using (sql server, postgres or daffodil)
4. The OS you are using.
5. The h/w you are running on, namely, CPU speed and memory.

Yours is the first report of performance issue in the product catalog, so it is important that we know were to focus our efforts to solve it. We are also analyzing our queries.

> 1. The version of centric you are using.

From the Admin page:
Application Version: 3.1 (2005-08-04)
Database Version: (2005-07-20-script01-mr)

> 2. The version of java and the memory allocated for java.

Java 1.5.0_04, default memory assigned for Tomcat (not sure where I'd find this)

> 3. The database you are using (sql server, postgres or daffodil)

PostgreSQL 8.0.1

> 4. The OS you are using.

Windows XP Pro SP2

> 5. The h/w you are running on, namely, CPU speed and memory.

P4, 2.8 GHz
1 GB RAM

This is the standard Centric install that also preconfigures Tomcat 5.5 and Postgres. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Thanks for the quick response.

Try 12,000 products each page takes aproximatly 122s per page. perhaps there thoughs be a search feature or the ability to directly enter a sku rather then haveing to select each product
