Setting up Fax service

5/26/2008 10:51 AM EDT

I have recently been asked to add fax ability to our centric system. I see that Hylafax is what is supported here. I unfourtunately have windows servers and hylafax appears to be a Unix/Linux package. It's not that I don't know Linux I just don't realy have the time to monkey with it.

has anyone been successful in deploying fax ability useing something other than hylafax?

Hi Jason,

To my knowledge, no one has implemented fax capability using anything other than HylaFax, and I'd guess we're pretty tied to it and integrating with anything else would take some work.

Also, IMHO, fax is pretty rapidly going out of style and I'd also guess most people/companies are using email over fax these days.

All that said, Hylafax is free and open, very easy to set up under Linux, and performs excellently. Once set up, you can treat it as a black box. There are a variety of Howtos and simple to install packages available on the net. I just used google and found a bunch, including an RPM for Red Hat/CentOS.
