Version 2.9 test 3 (2004-10-15) DB import to latest stable version?

2/23/2007 3:46 PM EST

Hey all,

I know this is going to make some people clench their teeth... but I really need to do this.

I'm going to be building a new server (Ubuntu 6.06LTS) and will need to import my existing CentricCRM database to the latest stable version. As the subject says, my current version is 2.9 test 3. I'd like to know what I'm going to be up against by importing my DB to the latest version. Like I said, this is most likely going to be a brand new OS install on a new server, so we don't have to worry about existing stuff.

One of the only reasons I want to upgrade is that whenever I re-start Tomcat, I have to re-configure everything (setup screen, configure database connection, etc.). More importantly, recently when I did this my "tabs" for HelpDesk tickets have dissapeared. Sometimes re-starting everything fixes this, but now it seems to be 'stuck'. Anyway, I just want to get the latest stable version so I can get off of this ancient version and be rockin'.

Any useful information, tips, anything at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Sincerely,
Jordan

Looks like you will need to go through several upgrades to be running on the latest. Since the scripts from 2.9 have not been validated through 4.1, you will most likely need to upgrade to each release version first.

Grab the final 2.9 release and upgrade to the final version running the any upgrade scripts from your 2.9 test 3 version to the 2.9 release.
Grab the final 3.0 release and run upgrade_v29-30.txt.
Grab the final 3.1 release and run upgrade_v30-31.txt.
Grab the final 4.0 release and run upgrade_v31-32.txt.
Grab the final 4.1 release and run upgrade_v40-41.txt.

If you run these scripts from the 4.1 release only, some of the data manipulation scripts (.bsh) will fail, but the database schema scripts (.sql) will work. This means your data will not be ported through each version and you might miss something important.

To locate the older releases, login to this site, choose "Project List" then change the filter to "All Closed Projects." Some of the older source releases were BitTorrent only -- let us know if these don't work.

The following URL might work if you have to choose to reinstall each time...

http://www.centriccrm.com/ProjectManagementIssues.do?command=Details&pid=24&iid=2587&cid=19&resetList=true

It details setting up a directory that your tomcat user can access for storing preference files (untested).
