ConcourseSuite CRM 6.0 Nightly Builds

The nightly builds are going well and hopefully we can open these up to more users and testers.  Let us know if you are interested!  We particularly need help in updating the various database scripts so if you are a SQL person this would be great.

Aside from the features already announced, this release has been tested under Tomcat 6 and Java 6 as well as Tomcat 5 and Java 5.  The nightly builds use PostgreSQL which has been Concursive's reference database platform for the last 6 (or more) years.  PostgreSQL has the best open source license for us and our customers and features enterprise level functionality and performance.

In this release we have gone through many different CRM configurations and when QA says it's done, then it will be done.

The new Lucene search engine is providing fantastic results in the Contacts and Accounts module.  Searching has never been quicker and we've optimized some of the search capabilities around phone numbers, addresses, and more.

Centric CRM Enterprise 5.0 Beta 2

A BETA version of Centric CRM Enterprise 5.0 is now available for testing. This version has a few issues so it must not be used for production, however you should test upgrading a copy of your 4.1 production database. Your feedback will be most helpful in providing a quality release.

If you are installing for the first time...
  1. Download and review the "CRM Installation and Setup" guide for step-by-step instructions of Centric CRM; this beta release will only install under PostgreSQL and MySQL and Java 1.5 or higher is required.
  2. Download the Centric CRM Enterprise Edition .war file, which includes a comprehensive web-based installation and upgrade process.
If you are upgrading...

All of the scripts for upgrading from Centric CRM 4.1 to 5.0 (for PostgreSQL installations only at this time) are included. Please review the included upgrade documentation.

If you have a version of Centric CRM prior to 5.0, then you must upgrade to 4.1 first.

Before upgrading, follow these steps:
  1. Shutdown your web application server.
  2. Backup your existing database! If anything goes wrong (which it shouldn't, of course) you will need to restore to your previous database.
  3. Backup the build.properties file in your file library directory (this is required for restoring).
  4. Make sure you have a backup copy of your current .war file.
  5. Copy the Centric CRM 5.0 .war over the existing .war (use the exact same filename as the previous .war so that the upgrade is auto-detected).
  6. If a directory exists with the same name as the .war, you should delete this directory so that the application server doesn't get confused. It will recreate it on startup.  Also, if you run into problems with installation, delete any work files used by your application server.
  7. Startup your web application server.
  8. After startup, navigate to the Centric CRM web application with your browser.
  9. You should be presented with an "Upgrade in progress" screen (if not, try refreshing your browser). Login with an Administrator account to proceed with the upgrade.
  10. The upgrade will modify your database, then present you with a status report.
  11. If all went well, then click to continue and you and other users can now login.
If an error occurred, then please submit the error message so that we can see what happened. Tomcat's log file (catalina.out or stdout.txt) might provide additional debug information.

If you need your system back up right away, then shutdown the application server, restore the database, copy the old .war back into place, delete any directory with the same name as the .war in the deployment directory, restore the previous build.properties file to the file library and start back up. Your installation should be the same as before.

As part of Centric CRM's commitment to its growing developer and user community, and our commitment to open source best practices including making product development as transparent as possible, we are publishing the product roadmap for the upcoming release of Centric CRM 5.0. This roadmap is based on truly extensive input from customers, partners, and community members. Our goal is to finish active development on the 5.0 product by early summer, with QA and testing to follow.

Significant new capabilities in the 5.0 release (some of which are already in the source code—see the project Wiki for details) include website authoring and content management capabilities including basic e-commerce, the integration of JSR-168 Portal/Portlet functionality throughout much of the application, ehnancements to Action Plans, administration tools for multi-tenant systems, an offline version of Centric CRM, and the integration of Web 2.0 capabilities such as Wikis, Blogs, and RSS feeds directly into the CRM application itself.

This is an exciting, ambitious release that will benefit from community contributions and input. Please take a close look at the roadmap, and let us know if you have any questions or comments. Better yet, get involved with the development of any features that seem particularly important to you.

Thanks for your support and assistance.
