What is the Innovators' Dillemma in Times of Economic Disruption?

When companies in distress facing economic disruption due to recession, good managers manage harder than ever before...

Clayton Christensen pointed out in his landmark research that the heart of the innovators' dillemma is that good managers are focused on not making mistakes, allocating resources to projects that have a high degree of working and eliminating or mitigating any risk of failure or waste of resources-technical, people, executional risk and money.  So, when times are really, really tough these great managers only manage harder making it very difficult to leap to the new opportunities that seem small and risky at first.
