Community Edition version? (5.0.2, etc)

1/15/2008 3:09 PM EST

Hello,

I have a question which is related to the discussion of what the differences are between the Community and Enterprise editions:

What is the current version of the Community Edition and where can I get it? The latest SVN checkout from https://svn.centricsuite.com/webapp/branches/branch-50-community says in the file src/java/org/aspcfs/modules/system/base/ApplicationVersion.java that I've downloaded "Concourse Suite 5.0 Community Edition Beta (2007-11-29)". So has the Community Edition of v5.0 final really been released? What about 5.0.1 and 5.0.2?

Also, the README.txt file that comes with the CE says that the place to get the "Latest Stable Release" is https://svn.centricsuite.com/webapp/branches/branch-50 and the "Latest Unstable Developer Code (release + fixes + untested features)" can be found at https://svn.centricsuite.com/webapp/branches/branch-51 but both of those URLs are giving me 403 Forbidden errors (and they're different from the URL I used to download that README!)

So what's going on with the versioning of the CE and will it get minor updates like v5.0.2, etc?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Jason

Who knows?

I don't think Concursive have sorted their strategy yet.

Shame - it's a great foundation, with a committed and supportive community it could be the best Open Source CRM. But I don't get the impression that the owners want that.

branch-50-community is the right branch for the 5.0 release of the community edition. Sorry about the text in the README, that is a typo since there is no 51 branch yet. We are still working on feature branches and bug fixes, and these things will be rolled out into the community edition as well.

We have plans to make it much easier to find information about the community edition and the enterprise edition as well, so seeing what is happening in each will be clearer in the future.

Thanks for your support!

Well, after almost a year, I find that the version we can download via svn is still the same mentioned in this thread.

In most other OSS projects I know of, the community edition is the one that is ahead in development, and the "Enterprise" edition is normally behind, because of additional QA and so.

Is this the delay that Concursive CE users will have to wait in order to have the latest developments and fixes?

Best regards,
Gustavo.

download doesn't work. enforced registration to be able to download seems to be nothing more than collection of email addresses. i'll see how much spam arives from here or currently unknown sources ...

Hi,

Download certainly does work (I just tried it with a new account), but you do have to read the instructions. We provide download directly from our subversion server. You'll need to have a subversion client, have read the directions, and be using your site user name and password.

We do not spam or provide email addresses to anyone. On the other hand since we are giving this away, it seems reasonable to me that we know at least a little about who is doing the taking.

Cheers,
Tom

Yes, if you create a new account SVN access works, but not with older accounts.....

Also, are there any answers as to when the community download will be updated, it has been many many months since that code was updated, and there are tons of bugs that we are fighting with....

Any comments on what is happening there?
