Major Issues with ConcourseConnect...

1/12/2012 8:00 AM EST

Where do I start?

  1. Lack of in depth documentation. This would probably prevent my entire line of questions...
  2. Email notifications - Simply not working, with 3 different smtp servers
  3. integration with google maps, analytics and facebook API. Are these only options at install? How do I add these features without starting over?
  4. Anyone can create groups or events, among other things. How do I change these sorts of permissions if I don't want them?
  5. Eliminating promotions, tags and classifies from the top menu - I have hidden then with css. Is this really the answer?
  6. Version 3 - I have seen talk of a version 3 from over a year ago. Will it ever be available?
  7. Support - While my first question was answered very quickly, my susequent questions have been ignored. Can I depend on you to support me when I go live with the full version of your software?

I believe your software has a unique selling proposition. It has the ability to be my website, client community, and project management/collaboration site all in one. And, my six month plan is to do just that; roll it out in open source as a community and project management, and get client feedback on the functionality while I build the website components and content behind the scenes. At that point, we become a paid user of your software and that will most likely include your CRM. But that only happens if it works!

Not to mention the fact that I intend to offer the same kind of website to my clients after we have developed it for ourselves.

To make a long story short, I love what I see so far, have buy in from my company, but I need to have a working site by Friday. There are too many issues to continue if we don't resolve them quickly. I am at a crossroads between continueing to develop this in spite of the problems and looking for a different solution.

Can I get a little help here guys?

Robert, I have a few answers...

When ConcourseConnect is installed it places its configuration file in the "File Library" that was chosen during install. Based on the install wizard it makes some best guesses but these can be further modified in there. There is a file called build.properties and you can modify it then restart the web server for changes to update. This used to be interactive then we switched to the text file so we could add features quicker.

In build.properties you can place your Google API keys...

# Google Maps API
GOOGLE_MAPS.DOMAIN=http://127.0.0.1:8080
GOOGLE_MAPS.KEY=ABQIAAAAfsfi-fG5t8ulbbAwLsp1JRTBfUk9TZrBRaIteybtnU2KziHEpRTAxAtvYKWhdmx7f1-b7iCvPPTTBw

# Google Analytics API
GOOGLE_ANALYTICS.ID=

At some point we added another preference to disable the top menu (not sure which version):

SHOW_SITE_MENU=false

There are a number of preferences defined in XML files that help customize the site.

Here's how I like to think of a launch in terms of customization:

Thanks man, I'm sure this will be helpfull info.

Right now I am trying to get setup on a rackspace server and I'm running into the same problem over and over again. Can you help me with this and perhaps best practices for switch tomcat to port 80? I know there are a couple of options.

The java preferences could not be stored: /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/ROOT/=/var/lib/tomcat6/fileLibrary/
